Whyte & Mackay was born on the banks of the River Clyde, in a Glasgow then famed for its shipbuilding — at the time, one in every five ships sailing the seas was launched there. Seeing an opportunity to offer the city’s hard-working residents an alternative to Cognac, James Whyte and Charles Mackay launched their blended whisky, and its popularity grew alongside Glasgow itself.
The blend begins with the finest aged single malts and aged grain whiskies from Highland and Speyside, each matured separately. Where most blends stop there, Whyte & Mackay adds a further step: marrying the two in sherry casks.
This triple maturation yields a whisky rich in colour with golden highlights — round and full on the nose, with smooth flavours of honey and fruits. The founders’ conviction endures: the more dedication given, the greater the reward.
