Amrut

Amrut Distillery was founded in Bangalore in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna, just months after India declared its independence. The family-run house crafts whisky in the purest Scottish tradition while proudly proclaiming its Indian roots — and in 2004, Amrut became the first distillery in history to produce a 100% Indian single malt.

Its barley grows in the fertile plains of Punjab and Rajasthan, at the foot of the Himalayas, before being malted and transformed in Bangalore. For certain expressions, a peated malt is sourced from Scotland.

Distilled in pot stills designed specially for the house, the whisky matures chiefly in bourbon casks, drawing fruity and finely spiced notes. The barrels rest in cellars nearly 1,000 metres above sea level, where the tropical climate quickens the ageing well beyond its pace in Europe.
