The Botanist is a small-batch, artisanal gin from Bruichladdich Distillery, and the only gin made on Islay. To the nine classical gin aromatics it adds a further twenty-two wild botanicals, hand-foraged from the island’s shores, bogs and hills. It is these botanicals, and the two local botanists who gather them, that give the gin its name.
Distillation is a deliberately slow process. Only the purest, lightest vapours pass through the lyne arm of Ugly Betty, the world’s only Lomond pot still, before the stillman draws the precious middle cut from the spirit safe.
The result is a satin-smooth Hebridean dry gin: sweet, delicate menthol on the nose, citrus unfolding into a floral starburst on the palate, and a long finish of gentle spice.
