We are the first licensed distillery on Islay and home to the oldest Scotch whisky maturation space in the world.Born in Islay
Founded in 1779, by John P. Simpson. Bowmore is located in the centre of Islay and occupies a central role in the island’s whiskies. The distillery has retained its own floor maltings which account for 40% of its needs and when mixed with malt from the mainland results in a medium peated spirit.
The Oldest Distillery
Bowmore is Islay’s oldest distillery, and home to the world’s oldest whisky maturation warehouse, the No. 1 Vaults. It’s in this legendary warehouse that Bowmore whisky has been meticulously matured by their master distillers for nearly 240 years.
